Conveniently located outside of Scranton, PA, The Music Studio is home to 40 piano students of all ages.
At The Music Studio, piano instruction is tailored to each student. All students are required to learn the fundamentals of note reading and piano technique in order to express themselves through the musical genres they love best - from the classics of Bach and Beethoven to Broadway show tunes, Beatles, and even Radiohead.
Students are encouraged, but not required, to perform in both formal and informal recitals; participate in the annual National Guild of Piano Teachers Auditions; perform in the community and for local retirement and nursing facilities; and audition for Carnegie and Kirby Center recital opportunities.

Salon Concert at The Music Studio

Jason Smeltzer and Wayne Smith will present a Theremin and piano performance and discussion as part of the 2011 Salon Concert Series at the Music Studio, 106 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, on Saturday evening, October 15, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
Jason Smeltzer has been performing and demonstrating a musical instrument called the Theremin for approximately ten years. The Theremin was invented in the 1920's by Leon Theremin: it was essentially the first musical instrument to use electricity.
Recently he has received several arts grants (Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts/Lackawanna County Arts and Culture) to give Theremin performances and demonstrations. The range of music extends from Classical and Improvisational with pianists Wayne Smith and Catherine Shefski, to Middle-Eastern Dance with Diana Shahein and the Beledi Dance Theatre. He's also performed Nursery Rhymes, Elvis and Schubert with harpist Deirdre White, and R&B and Jazz Fusion with the trio Black Licorice. In collaboration with illustrator Ted Michalowski he has recently returned from performing for several venues in Poland. Jason has worked as a Band and Orchestra repair technician at Cliff Girard Music for the past ten years.
Wayne Smith is an improviser, composer, and pianist. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he grew up in Westfield, New Jersey. He has appeared recently as a featured guest on WVIA public Radio. Other appearances as both a soloist and collaborator include performances at the Waverly Community House, Columbia University, Le Moyne College, and recently at The Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum with Jason Smeltzer on Theremin. Overseas, he has performed in both Korea and Japan. A resident of Pennsylvania since 2004, Wayne’s performances can be heard on both LP and CD recordings.
This project is supported by a Lackawanna County Arts and Culture grant, a program of the Lackawanna County Commissioners and the Council on Art, Culture and Education.
